about

Slum Dunk Music presents the new album by tropical punk funk duo Tetine, comprised of Brazilian-born artists Bruno Verner and Eliete Mejorado. The pair met in 1995 in Brazil while taking part in the local underground art punk scene of Sao Paulo. Since then they have created a multitude of sound works from tropical punk, baile funk to electronica, spoken word & music incursions for plays, soundtracks, performances, art films and installations.

From A Forest Near You is Tetine's second album to be released in Europe. The album is a follow up to the critically acclaimed UK debut "Let Your X's Be Y's" and the 12" single "I Go To The Doctor" both released on Soul Jazz Records in early 2008. The album marks Tetine's first release on Slum Dunk Music, but it is in fact their 10th album since they formed. From A Forest Near You is a luminous DIY collection of tropical punk funk / new wave & melancholic electro pop fused with minimal dark sambas and leftfield percussive drum machine-pop - featuring 14 tracks heavy on electronic and organic elements - forming a set of highly personal electronic/post punk pieces with a very distinctive melodic and harmonic sense. At times evocative of the early electronic dance-punk scene but also heavily influenced by Brazilian artists such as Os Mutantes, Novos Baianos & Rogerio Sganzerla - via an unconditional love for the music of Kraftwerk, Brian Eno and Can, From A Forest Near You sees Tetine creating beautiful melancholy electronic avant-pop with truly adventurous sensibility.

Tetine have also carved an unusual musical path constantly exploring the boundaries between music, art, video and performance. Tetine's live events range from rock gigs to gallery installations; from opening "Tropicalia - A Revolution in Brazilian Culture" festival at the Barbican Centre in London to numerous performances for galleries, museums, art spaces and festivals from Paris (Palais de Tokyo), to Chicago (The Wire's Adventures in Modern Music Festival), Sonar, Winter Music Conference amongst others. Besides that Tetine have been instrumental in bringing the Brazilian underground music scene to the attention of the UK for a number of years. They compiled, presented and mixed the first ever album of Baile Funk outside of Brazil (Slum Dunk Presents Funk Carioca Mixed by Tetine, 2004 released on Mr Bongo Records) as well as an essential primer to early-80s Post-Punk from Sao Paulo (The Sexual Life of The Savages, released on Soul Jazz Records in 2006). Both these albums have influenced a new generation of DJs and beat-makers around the world.
